The Abercromby family of South Carolina which came from Banff, Scotland had the following arms attributed to them:
The Coat of Arms Blazoned: Argent, on a chevron gules between three boars’ heads erased azure, an antique crown, or.
Crested: A cross, calvary, gules.
Motto: In cruce salus.
The arms were most likely awarded in England by the College of Arms of Great Britain.
As cited in the 1904 Edition of Crozier’s General Armory; William Armstrong Crozier, Fox Duffield & Company, New York.
One might notice that this coat of arms is identical to Abercombie of New Jersey. This may indicate that the two families are closely related, or that Mr. Crozier made an error in his armory.
